Community Service Network Shows “We Are One”
Topic: Community Service Network
Saluda County School District knows the power of ONE. Seven years ago, after realizing their community generosity and support was great, but often duplicative in efforts, they sought to bring together members of their community with district staff to share vision and ideas on how they could better leverage resources and meet student and family needs. The result? The Saluda Service Network (SSN) was created, and this one organization is making Saluda a better place to live, work, learn, and grow.
Overview
The Saluda Service Network is an informal organization of school and community members who meet every other month. They have four key goals:
• To provide feedback and updates so all can grow and be strengthened individually and collectively as a community.
• To connect community servants consistently with the purpose of building strong relationships and trust.
• To identify needs in the community (both immediate and recurring).
• To connect resources and support with the needs.
The “Secret Sauce”
The success of the Saluda Services Network has truly been in the relationships formed and commitment to strengthening and supporting their own district and community. Providing a “place at the table” for the district Superintendent, and community leaders from each sector (faith, business, non-profits, municipal, etc.) to collectively identify the mission/purpose and vision of the network strengthens buy-in and credibility.
